When to use a service invoice template
A service invoice is designed for engagements where the product is entirely human work: workshops, training, implementation, onboarding, and handoff sessions. Unlike hourly billing (where you track time against a rate) or project-based billing (where you quote a lump sum), service invoices typically break the engagement into distinct phases or deliverables, each with its own value. This gives the client visibility into what they are paying for and makes it easy to match your invoice line items against the milestones in your contract or SOW.
This template fits agencies and consultants who deliver defined service packages — an eight-week implementation engagement broken into discovery, build, and handoff — as well as independent trainers, coaches, and facilitators who run discrete sessions with clear deliverables. It works equally well for one-off engagements and recurring service relationships.
